Keep Swimming The sea’s on the rise over the wall. Her fingers gone numb undone they fall (one by one) ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah The calmer the breeze The lights are green The sharper the freeze The less overseen ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah She held back the tide She blew it away And all but her shoes were left in the bay Keep Swimming…

Crash 04:34
Crash Truth be told there’s quite the fight here Undercurrents night after night after night in melting roads there’s no sense stalling what’s foretold You crash, everybody lands now Hold hands edge back never cross blind faith will tell you overtake but build a human chain of glances countdown, hardline all it takes You crash everybody lands down You crash everybody lands Close the door and lock the windows. Notify your next of kin. Cower under a patchwork blanket. Never ever let light in. Truth be told I like the debris Severed hands and mangled feet Folded rusted metal cages Symbols of our earth’s defeat

Like Rain 02:31
Like Rain Like water, like rain you gather pools, in your palms The flood falls on the land You dam the flow, in your hands. Swim and turn and twist and dive Skull and float and miss and lie Like water, like rain it’s cleaning, streets again. the streaming, riverrun Your heart pulled, to the ocean Swim and turn and twist and dive Skull and float and miss and lie Like water, like rain it spells out, a name. and vowels bounce aff the roofs, the tide turns rough to smooth Swim and turn and twist and dive Skull and float and miss and lie…

Laundry Song 02:54
Laundry Song I think of you both, when I’m pairing the socks; how one folds into the other and how if you were a raffle and folk were drawing lots you’d give them all out the same number. Your kindness is leaving the earth and the feeling is hearth and the home is a cave. We remember you both sketching up the hillside the sunset blazing away your hiking boots rotten, your hunger forgotten in the colours and lines of the day. Your kindness is leaving the earth and the smoke goes on curling right up to the sky. It curls in a Y And weeks spinning by of not hearing a word, you were climbing in a desert of snow. Then the one thing we heard, was a kite like a bird flying low, to let us know Your kindness was leaving the earth and the grieving is hearth and the home is a cave. Your kindness was leaving the earth and the smoke goes on curling right up to the sky…. And if you were a raffle and folk were drawing lots, you’d hand them all out the same number. I think of you both when I’m pairing the socks.

Sydney, Walking Let’s go, for a walk. Underground where folk can’t see and keep close quarter. Walk slowly, down to the water’s edge. In time, you’ll go slowly out of your mind In time you’ll sh… Let’s stay, out late Let’s take, a reprobate Let’s tie them to the pier, watch the water rise and they disappear. In time, you’ll go out of your mind In the end you’ll be twisted around the bend Never say, I didn’t warn you. Never say, I didn’t tell. Let’s go, for a ride. There’s a river mouth, that’s open wide. Wide open, to the quays let’s go now, you and me

Charcoal Wings He woke up, late again. Scurried off without a word. But he left his wings lying on the chair. They weighed me down at first. Six stones of feathers and dust. He’s not the cleanest angel but That’s what I like I put them on my shoulders. I pulled the straps on tight. I walked out on the windowsill. I stepped out into the night I flew over cities and towns, up over the trees and the clouds. I kicked up a storm, over the zoo. I could spiral by the end of the land, I could swoop, touch the stars with my hand. But like my angel, it had to end. Then came the rain, the rain the wings got waterlogged. They dragged me down and down flaiIing fast fell I fell right to the ground. I caught the bus back home again. Spent an hour with a hairdryer and some talc. Then he walked in and closed the door. I’m sorry… I started to say. But he lifted me up, anyway ‘are you okay, are you okay?’ ‘Forget the wings’, he said, ‘forget the wings I am an Archangel and I forgive all things.

Raft 03:38
Raft In faraway harbours they’d make a raft set your body out to sea lay you out on a raft of driftwood and push your body out to sea. come home and I salute you from the shallows wading out to watch the lanterns shine and fade we brought you, washed you, made you holy and pushed your body out to sea come home And there will be no exultated rescue. And there will be no litany of your treasure. There will be no sound except the sea, sigh, cry, wave on wave no sound except the shore come home
